What happens if I change my compression password?

Most people believe that the password for a ZIP archive file applies to all the files in the archive. This is not correct.

Each file in the archive has its own password. Therefore, if you change your compression password then any new or updated files will use the new password, but unchanged files will keep the old password. This can cause confusion when you try to retrieve the files from the ZIP file. For this reason it is not recommended that you change your compression password, and if you do, it would be wise to change the destination directory or delete the files in the destination directory before proceeding.
