Where does SyncBackPro store its temporary database files?

When memory is running low, SyncBackPro will free up memory and instead use a temporary database stored on the hard drive. This allows for it to process an unlimited number of files (SyncBackSE and SyncBackFree are limited by the amount of free memory available). You can configure SyncBackPro to use more or less memory.

SyncBackPro and SyncBackSE are available as 64-bit programs which means they can use all available memory. The 32-bit versions cannot use more than 2GB of memory no matter how much RAM you have.

The temporary databases are stored in the Windows temporary folder. You can change the temporary directory via the TMP (and TEMP) environment variables. Those folders will be used by all applications on your system. Alternatively, you can set the SYNCBACKTEMP environment variable to tell SyncBack which temporary folder to use.

On Windows, to change the temporary directory:

- Run Windows File Explorer (Windows Key + E), right-click on Computer in the Folders list on the left, and select Properties from the pop-up menu.
- A windows will appear showing basic information about your computer. Click on Advanced system settings on the left (you may need to click Continue when prompted) and the System Properties window will appear.
- Click the "Environment Variables" button at the bottom of the Advanced tab sheet.
- There are two list boxes provided: the top one is for the current user, and the bottom one is for the system. If you have TMP or TEMP set for the current user then simply change them (via the top Edit button) to the directory you want to use. If they are not set for the current user then use the New button to create them and set them to the directory you want to use.
- Click OK, then OK again, to save the changes.

If SyncBackPro was running then you'll need to close it and start it again, otherwise it will be using the old environment variables.
